Mike Huckabee: Unfit To Be President
Posted on 12.05.09 by K. Daniel Glover @ 12:00 pm

Outrage and insights in a 140 characters or less (most of the time). This is a weekly recap of topics that capture my fancy. To get your fill of my rants on a daily basis, follow The Enlightened Redneck on Twitter.

Much to the chagrin of many fellow conservatives, I supported Mike Huckabee for president in the 2008 Republican presidential primary.

The news this week that he granted clemency to a man who years killed four police officers in Washington state, and Huckabee’s comments after the news broke, made me change my tune. I still like Huckabee, but I don’t believe he has the judgment to be president.

Here is what I had to say about the matter over a series of tweets: “Mike Huckabee freed a man now suspected of killing four cops. He no longer looks as presidential to me. … Huckabee dodges responsibility, blames “Arkansas” (and Washington) for freeing a man suspected of kiing four cops. What a cowardly statement from Huckabee. I expected better of him. He made a huge mistake and should own up to it. … ”

And here are some redneck rants on other topics:

  • Leave it to the perverts in Hollywood to pervert a classic children’s Christmas cartoon, “Frosty, The Snowman.”
  • Crashing a White House state dinner, and then bragging about it on Facebook, is really, really dumb.” Jail time?
  • Fact of the day, just heard on the news: Tiger Woods makes more in 60 seconds than he had to pay as a fine for his car accident.
  • Joy Behar thought Black Friday was racist until her black co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, enlightened her — for real. That reminds me of the “pot calling the kettle black” episode with Omarosa Manigault Stallworth on “The Apprentice.”
  • The U.N.’s alarmist-in-chief flew at least 443,243 miles in 19 months to decry global warming. Can you say “hypocrisy”?
  • At least 22.6 million reasons why ClimateGate matters to taxpayers (via @donsurber). I suspect there are many more.
  • Wanna run for Congress? Join the roster of candidates in non-existent districts. Only dead people vote there!
  • Deer own this country. America needs more hunters.
  • Twitter is the top word of 2009, beating Obama. Stimulus is No. 4. Obama-mania is No. 2 phrase; Obama is top name.
  • Today, ignorant people are afraid of Twitter; in the Civl War Era, they were afraid of telegrams.
  • Today’s media market in brief: Detroit got a new newspaper last week; it suspended publication this week.
  • I’m wondering whether the FTC news workshop is going to be a forum for media dinosaurs to bash bloggers for two days. Paul Steiger of ProPublica, the first speaker, took multiple jabs at bloggers in his opening statement. … The current panel is a portrait of what’s wrong with journalism — media dinosaurs who resisted new media until it was too late.

    The D.C. Commuter’s Rant
Posted on 06.26.09 by K. Daniel Glover @ 6:57 pm

I hate cabbies in the District of Columbia who think they have some special exemption that lets them occupy two lanes by straddling the dotted white line as they drive. And someone needs to pass a law that makes rush hour illegal at 1:30 in the afternoon.

I also don’t understand why I can save 10 cents to 20 cents a gallon by traveling just a few blocks. All stations are selling the exact same fossil fuel, and the overhead can’t vary that much from one spot to the next in the same county, with the same property taxes, etc.

That’s all for today. Tune in next week for the latest installment of “The D.C. Commuter’s Rant.”

Redneck Rants (Week Of April 26)

Hateful liberals who want everyone to tolerate homosexuality but who won’t tolerate anyone disagreeing with them are on the attack against Miss California Carrie Prejean for daring to say, when asked a direct question, that she opposes gay marriage. Their complaint is that Prejean opposes gay marriage on moral grounds even as she prances around virtually nude on stage and strikes alluring poses as a model. It’s a wee bit morally inconsistent, they argue.

Conservatives, including the “family values” crowd, have been quick to dismiss the criticism of Prejean, but the liberals have a point. Yes, they are attacking her for political reasons and don’t care one lick about morality unless they see an opening to yell, “Hypocrite!” But Christians shouldn’t bare their bodies for everyone to see.

I said as much, repeatedly, on Twitter this week. Here are my tweets on the subject, some of them written in response to fellow conservatives who scolded me for suggesting that Prejean needs to take the moral high road in her attire and behavior as well as in her views about gay marriage:

Redneck Rants (Week Of April 19)

    • Divorce should carry the stigma it once did. And Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani are moral hypocrites if not political ones.
    • Matt Drudge as a paragon of media ethics? Sorry, I’m not buyin’ that one. He just likes privacy. It’s that simple.
    • Has Antonin Scalilia lost his marbles? Does he really think it’s “reasonable” to strip search school girls?
    • A reporter who took a literal bullet at work just took a figurative one from his bosses — a layoff. What more proof to you need that loyalty is a one-way street in today’s workforce. Employers demand it but too rarely give it back.
    • Who owns the rain? You probably won’t be surprised to hear that the government thinks it does.
    • Fat folks may be making the globe warmer. Let’s just say I’m doing my part. I’m not happy about it, mind you. I’m just sayin’.
    • Why socialism will fail — a classroom experiment to prove a point to all of the socialist wannabes.
    • Blogger James Joyner thinks too many “ranting loons” are “the voice of conservatism.” “Loons” is too strong, but I agree. That said, I have found myself enjoying Glenn Beck’s show occasionally. Sometimes ranting is in order — hence this feature.
    • Bible believers are “rigorously normal.” “You are the light of the world” in action (Matt. 5:14-16).
    • Ramps is special — it’s your springtime tonic.” Spoken like a true redneck. Can’t say I’ve tried them, though.

    • Satan is real, and the people who think otherwise are proof that he is actively deceiving men to this day.
    • In 21st century America, the right to be gay trumps religious freedom. Evil is good, and good is evil.
    • Vermont, the land of legalized perversion, thinks teens should be allowed to “sext” nude pictures of each other.
    • Note to the parents of our children’s friends: I own two guns. Now back to our regularly scheduled play date.
    • All you bitter, extremist clingers to guns, religion and bigotry are being watched by the Homeland Security Department.

    • Good parenting: Dad hammers teen’s phone after mega-bill. Better parenting: no cell phones for kids.
    • Carrie Underwood made a suggestive comment but later apologized. Good on her. Bad on CMT for saying it was unnecessary.
    • Bible wisdom from @Jason_Hardin for Christians who blog, tweet and use Facebook.
    • Barack Obama’s honeymoon is over. The evidence: the cheesy knick-knacks made in his image aren’t selling.
    • How the Obamas “change” churches — send “White House aides and close friends of the family” as scouts.

    Redneck Rants
Posted on 01.14.09 by K. Daniel Glover @ 8:13 pm

Sometimes I have little to say about topics in the news (I know, hard to believe) yet still want to say something. I’m starting this recurring feature, much like the “Blog Bits” I used to write for Beltway Blogroll, to satisfy those urges. Each “Redneck Rants” post will feature short items and links.

Here is my first round of rants:

    • This tirade by CNN’s Rick Sanchez is over the top, especially the dripping sarcasm about “Joe The Plumber’s” legal name, but Joe brought the contempt on himself with his equally over-the-top and sweeping rant against war-reporting. hiring “Joe The Journalist” to cover a war was a horrible idea.
    • Associated Press, the wire service that sets the style rules for newspapers across America, is “thinking outside the box” in how to identify U.S. presidents. I live outside the Beltway and think inside the box, so I say it’s a nonsensical move. I’ll stick with “President Obama.”
    • Just naming a child after Adolph Hitler shouldn’t be grounds for social workers to remove kids from a home. But it’s not a stretch for me to suspect that parents who idolize one of mankind’s most notorious, hateful and murderous dictators might have done something to their children that warranted a legal intervention in their home.
