Grandma Tased?
Posted on 06.10.09 by K. Daniel Glover @ 10:31 pm

Yes, Grandma was tased, but context is everything. The headline on the news report is sensationalism at its worst because it emphasizes the age of the woman and ignores the fact that she repeatedly resisted arrest and challenged a police officer trying to do his job.

The grandma nonsense is nothing but spin from a woman who, by virtue of the fact that she is 72, should have known better than to behave the way she did. From the outset, she turned the encounter into a battle of big, burly cop against poor, old, defenseless woman, and the press swallowed the bait in the face of video evidence to the contrary.

Sgt. Major Gary Griffin is right: “She was an adult; she was told nine times to comply; she chose all nine times to disregard the orders of a Texas peace officer.”

I don’t know that the stun gun was necessary, but I’m not going to second-guess the officer under the circumstances visible on camera. Grandma had ample warning.

  1. With so many unnecessary tasings, this one is more fuel on the fire for that crowd. Given the totality of the situation, it is probably best he tased her.

  2. Sounds to me like she thought she’d get a pass just because of her age. She was dangerously closr to a busy highway, but she was determined not to do what the officer told her no matter what.

  4. She thought because of her age she was above the law. This lady was angry and violent. She lied about the slective amnesia. I have been tased more than once and never forgot anything. She lied to the reporter on the news! Then she founnd out that there was a dash camera. The police officer should have just laid her out like he would do with anyone resisting arrest. The law is the law, no matter what your age!!!!!!!
