A Minnesota mother who apparently has been forced to live in sunny Florida decided to visit a flea market on a whim so she could make fun of “rednecks.” Whoever organized that particular flea market fueled a misinformed media stereotype by equating the Confederate flag (and thus Southern bigotry) with being redneck. But that lapse in judgment, whether willful or ignorant, did not warrant the scorn heaped upon flea marketers in general by the elitist who writes down her nose at rednecks under the name “Manic Mother.” She says she uses her blog to “educate and entertain,” but mocking people because they like puppies, raise chickens and bunnies, buy used tires, and generally don’t share your tastes is neither educational nor entertaining:
Stephen Fowler tried that shtick on reality television and earned the scorn of an entire nation for his 15 minutes of infamy. Manic Mother could learn a thing or two from his experience. Filed under: Culture and Hatin' On Rednecks and History and Media and People Comments:

Not elitist at all….Northern. I am just trying to show the difference, because trust me there is. Complete culture shock moving here.

Beth: There are two ways to make fun of rednecks and their culture — the Jeff Foxworthy way or the Stephen Fowler way. You think “Jeff Foxworthy is dumb,” so you clearly weren’t poking fun at their idiosyncrasies like he does.
That puts you in the Stephen Fowler camp, which means you didn’t merely portray Florida rednecks as different from you. You portrayed them as lesser than Northerners like yourself who are like other types of entertainment and food and don’t talk “funny.”
