Redneck Rants (Week Of April 26)
Posted on 05.02.09 by K. Daniel Glover @ 10:11 pm

Outrage and insights in a 140 characters or less (most of the time). This is a weekly recap of topics that capture my fancy. To get your fill of my rants on a daily basis, follow The Enlightened Redneck on Twitter.

Hateful liberals who want everyone to tolerate homosexuality but who won’t tolerate anyone disagreeing with them are on the attack against Miss California Carrie Prejean for daring to say, when asked a direct question, that she opposes gay marriage. Their complaint is that Prejean opposes gay marriage on moral grounds even as she prances around virtually nude on stage and strikes alluring poses as a model. It’s a wee bit morally inconsistent, they argue.

Conservatives, including the “family values” crowd, have been quick to dismiss the criticism of Prejean, but the liberals have a point. Yes, they are attacking her for political reasons and don’t care one lick about morality unless they see an opening to yell, “Hypocrite!” But Christians shouldn’t bare their bodies for everyone to see.

I said as much, repeatedly, on Twitter this week. Here are my tweets on the subject, some of them written in response to fellow conservatives who scolded me for suggesting that Prejean needs to take the moral high road in her attire and behavior as well as in her views about gay marriage:

  • Can you be a Christian and pose like Miss California? Christian means “like Christ,” so … no. Read the Bible.
  • Skimpy attire and alluring poses aren’t like Christ. Christian is a word that has meaning, and regarding her attire/behavior, I am not seeing Christ.
  • You can be a Christian and sin; you can’t be one and be a sinner (I John 3:4-10). That’s what you are before becoming one.
  • When you define wholesome behavior based upon modern culture, you end up with rampant divorce, gay marriage, etc. Dress is a type of behavior, and the Bible should be the standard rather than culture, which is always changing.
  • Mothers learn more about modest attire when they have daughters and see how boys look at them, but we men already understood that all too well because we were boys first.

And here are my redneck rants about other subjects:

  • Lesbian Church of the Holy Spirit minister who married gays in Iowa: “God sent me here today, and I’ve said OK.” Jesus Christ: “The Creator ‘made them male and female … and the two will become one flesh.’” (Matt. 19:4)
  • Are Christians ignoring the Bible when it comes to the torture debate? If they personally torture people, yes. But taking a stance on interrogation tactics is another matter. The Bible tells saints how to behave, not what to think about policy.
  • You need to not talk about your faith.” Free speech isn’t welcome if it involves free religion. Ah, America!
  • Shep Smith of Fox: “You can’t get the pig flu from the meat. Hello?” Maybe folks won’t “freak out” if cable stops the nonstop hype.
  • President Obama’s team spent $330,000 on a photo. And we’re supposed to believe they want to cut $100 million?
  • Michelle Obama paid $540 for sneakers. I was so wrong to say she’s an argula-lovin’ elitist. She wears sneakers!

  • Harry Truman is not a war criminal for dropping atomic bombs. I don’t think Jon Stewart believes that, either. Stewart just wanted to win a debate, and Cliff May had him in a rhetorical corner that offered only one way of escape — extremism.
  • Founding Bloggers has picked a “fair use” fight with CNN over its tea party coverage. Good for them.
  • Twitter bashing — the new elitist game, like blog bashing five years ago. Grow up, old media!
  • Our adopted Guatemalan son put “other” as ethnicity for his annual school testing. Identity crisis or political statement? He’s only 9, so probably neither. He just doesn’t know what ethnicity means.
  • It’s time to start nickel and diming. The U.S. Mint has frozen production of nickels and dimes for 2009 because of poor coinage demand.
  • I’m now a Miami Dolphins fan because the Dolphins drafted West Virginia University quarterback Pat White. He’s a class act.
