This article makes it sound like you have to be a Barack Obama supporter to break the redneck stereotype — and if you’re not an Obama fan, then you’re a bigot:
Newsflash: Enlightenment doesn’t come from supporting a political candidate, especially one whose ideas are socialistic. Plenty of enlightened rednecks voted against Obama, and that doesn’t make them “poor, bigoted, ignorant farm laborers from the South.” That said, I do like the blurb about former Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan, “The Redneck from Rolla.” Truly enlightened rednecks proudly embrace their roots like Carnahan and his wife, even if they only did it for politically expedient reasons.
