Word has it that this Christmas card was circulated around Alaska’s Legislature last week: There is some debate about whether that is Sarah Palin steering Santa’s sleigh while he takes aim at a wolf. It sounds like a safe bet to me, based on the unwarranted grief the Republican vice-presidential nominee took this year for supporting aerial hunting. Regardless, the card is a work of creative genius by Alaskan aviation and wildlife artist Sandie Jamieson. Go see her other work. My favorites include “Alaska: The More-Oil Majority” and “Security Check.” You can get them on t-shirts! Filed under: Culture and Holidays and Hunting & Guns and Redneck Humor Comments:

The Canadians have been doing this for a very long time. Does it make you hate Canadians? 30 years ago my father accepted a plane ride in Canada and they shot wolves from the air while Dad watched.. The wolves were running down deer on a frozen lake, eviscerating them and EATING THEM ALIVE. That is what wolves do.

Palin/Nugent 2012

Unfortunately people got the idea that Gov. Palin herself shot wolves from the air.
In truth she merely OK’ed the state continuing the practice. Every wolf eliminated saves some 150 caribou. And Native Americans and other residents need the food.

Hi
The artist, Sandy, is a man; you’d think you would know that, since you linked to it, etc.

Any rationalization will do. The “terrorists ” needed torture becasue each one had the potential to kill 150 humans and eviscerate them. We might as well just kill them. Pre-emptive strike. And, a distraction for the sheeple. Double bonus.

No, I don’t think that’s Sarah. But the first reindeer looks to me like Barry Obama. And second like Joey Biden.

You said But the first reindeer looks to me like Barry Obama. And second like Joey Biden.I think you were looking at the wrong end of the reindeer.

To lastevens
Your 1 terrorist to 150 potential dead estimate is a little low.
19 of the bastards killed over 3600 innocent Americans on 9/11/2001….
Merry Christmas!

I’m sure these compassionate(sic) liberals would rather have the entire wolf population just starve from overpopulation. Imagine all the little fuzzy wolves sitting there, starving, nothing to eat, whimpering, not able to move, not able to hunt. Folks, that’s what happens when the population becomes too much for the environment to support. Nature is a bitch but these controlled hunts help keep there from being overpopulation.
Unless you want to go up there and offer yourself as a nice meal to the wolves (although I doubt they would even have a taste for hippie) STFU.

Looking at the guy’s web site, it looks like it hasn’t been updated in over two years. (Check out the “What’s New” page, for example.) Since shooting from planes has been controversial in Alaska for decades, and since the site hasn’t been updated in forever, I think it’s a safe bet that this card has little to do with Palin’s recent rise to [in]fame[y]. (The same cannot be said for the recent attention the card has been getting, however…)

Conservationists and environmentalists and those opposing them are ALL usually wrong when it comes to How Nature Works.
If interfering humans would just let the forests take care of themselves in the natural cycle of fires, regrowth, etc., and the animals live in their natural cycle of the food chain (prey, raptors, larger preyer), you wouldn’t have Palin interfering with the natural cycle of wolves vs. caribou.
And yeah, wolves will start dining on their prey alive if the wolves are starving because humans are invading their territory to make profit digging for oil/gas, and upsetting the natural ecology.
Shooting from planes: Yeah, that’s as sporting as shooting fish, “hunting” exotic beasts in an enclosed “savannah”, using semi-automatic rifles, and underfunded zoos. Let’s face it, most people are NOT enlightened.

To Notalib: I’ll be more impressed with your “Shooting from planes: Yeah, that’s as sporting as shooting fish, “hunting” exotic beasts in an enclosed “savannah”, using semi-automatic rifles, and underfunded zoo” when you go out and kill your own grizzly bear with your bare hands for food.
